Handling
Osteovit® can be used in dry or moist form. Softening in
physiological saline or preferably in the patient’s own blood
transforms the Osteovit® cubes into a soft, mouldable sponge.
This assures close contact with the bone cavity. Osteovit®
should not be implanted under pressure.
If correction in size or form is required the moist Osteovit®
cubes can easily be shaped with a scalpel or scissors.
In the dry, firm condition, the material can be shaped as
desired with a saw or chisel.
Osteovit® possesses no mechanical strength. If stabilisation
at the implant site is necessary, this should be performed
according to surgical requirements, depending on the
indication.
Side effects
Dehiscence, oedema, haematoma or serous accumulation may
occur, depending on infections and the surgical site.
Contraindications
– Cases of acutely infected bone as early bacterial absorption
may occur
– Implantation at sites where mechanical force is expected
– Known hypersensitivity to proteins of bovine origin
